Workers aged 55 to 65 are staying at a job for 2.53 years (median duration), according to HR Mythbusters 2017, while 25 to 35-year-olds remain for a median 1.42 years, and 35 to 55-year-olds stay for nearly 2 years.
While younger generations may be considered job-hoppers more often, the stats show that almost everyone is willing to switch positions for better opportunities when they find them. Employees may leave when they feel they have run out of growth or learning opportunities with their current employer and are unable to move up or laterally within a company.
Companies that practice what they preach in terms of internal advancement and flexible work options may see better retention rates. Communicating these ideas during recruiting will give candidates a better picture of long-term employment.
